Uses:
This medication is used to remove certain type of warts on the outside skin of the genital areas. The gel is used to also treat warts between the genitals and the rectum, however the solution is not. Neither the gel nor the solution is used to treat warts that occur inside the rectum, vagina, or urine passageways inside the penis or the vulva. The way this medication works is by destroying the skin of the wart. This medication comes in two forms in the United States, gel and solution; however they are only available with a prescription.

How to Use:
When you receive your medication there will be a patient information page given to you outlining the details concerning this medication. It is vital that you read this information sheet carefully. It is essential to always keep this medication away from the eyes and mucous membranes, such as inside the penis, rectum, or vagina. It can cause sever irritation. This medication should only be used as directed and no more than three days a week, with no more than four treatment cycles at a time. It is important to only use the correct dose and for the correct length of time to avoid any severe side effects. When using this medication it is important to follow the directions exactly to avoid any contamination.
Side Effects:
Although side effects are rare and may not need medical treatment contact your doctor if you experiences any of these side effects; bad odor; bleeding of treated skin; blistering, crusting, or scabbing of treated skin; bloody urine; burning feeling of treated skin; dizziness; headache; itching of treated skin; pain during sexual intercourse; pain of treated skin; problems with foreskin of penis; redness or swelling of treated skin; scarring of treated skin; skin ulcers of treated skin; vomiting; dryness of treated skin; peeling of treated skin; soreness or tenderness of treated skin; stinging or tingling of treated skin; trouble in sleeping; changes in color of treated skin; and or rash.
Precautions:
Before using this medication you and your doctor should way the risks and the benefits. In the case of this medication there are many things to consider. When considering your allergies notify your doctor if you have ever had any unusual allergic reaction to podofilox or other substances such as foods, preservatives, or dyes. This medication has not been studied in pregnant women; however there is reason to believe that it may cause problems during pregnancy when injected at high doses. Before taking this medication consult your doctor and make sure he or she knows that you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant to avoid any potential risks. This medication can be absorbed through the skin in large enough doses, do it is not recommended that pregnant women handle this product until after they consult their physician. Women who are nursing should consult their doctor before breast-feeding. While it is not know if this medication is passed through breast milk, it is true that many medications are and can be used safely while breast-feeding.
Overdose:
In the event you suspect that an overdose has occurred contact your local emergency services and poison control. Symptoms of an overdose include: nausea; vomiting; diarrhea; chills; fever; sore throat; unusual bleeding or bruising; and oral ulcers.
Notes:
This medication may not be able to prevent previously healed warts from returning or stop new warts from growing. This medication if flammable because it contains alcohol it is essential that you do not use this medication near heat, an open flame, or while smoking.
Missed Dose:
If a dose is missed then apply it as soon as possible, then resume your regular dosing schedule.
Storage:
Store this medication out of reach of children and away from heat and direct light. Keep it tightly secured, and always discard expired medications.
