CYCLOBENZAPRINE DRUG INFORMATION

CYCLOBENZAPRINE - ORAL (sye-klo-BENZ-uh-preen)

USES:

This medication is a muscle relaxant, and relieves pain and discomfort caused by stains, sprains, and other muscle injuries.

HOW TO USE:

This medication may be taken with food if stomach is upset occurs. Only take this medication as directed by a physician. Never increase your dose or take it more often then prescribed by your doctor.

SIDE EFFECTS:

Side effect are rare with this medication, however they do occur. While these side effects may not need medical attention contact your doctor if they persist or become bothersome. These side effects include: stomach upset, heartburn, constipation, headache, dizziness or drowsiness or dry mouth the first few days as your body adjusts to the medication. If you experience any of these symptoms, notify your doctor immediately, they include: muscle stiffness, skin rash, itching, rapid heart rate, swelling of the face, or difficulty urinating. Dizziness or lightheadedness may occur when rising quickly from a ling or sitting position. To avoid this change positions slowly and use caution on stairs, it is also recommended to avoid activities that require alertness while taking this medication. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor.

PRECAUTIONS:

Before taking this medication always inform you doctor if you have: glaucoma, an overactive thyroid gland, heart disease, difficulty urinating, or any allergies. Women who are pregnant or breast feeding need to contact their doctor before taking this medication.

DRUG INTERACTIONS:

It is always important to inform your doctor of any medications you are taking either prescription or non-prescription, especially if you are taking: cimetidine, antidepressants, sedatives, tranquilizers, sleeping pills, narcotic pain medication (e.g., codeine), anti-allergy drugs, drugs used for asthma, cough-and-cold medicines. Alcohol adds to the dizziness and drowsiness caused by cyclobenzaprine. Always limit alcohol intake. Never start or stop any medicine without first seeking the approval of your doctor.

OVERDOSE:

Contact your local emergency room or poison control center if an overdose is suspected Symptoms of overdose may include drowsiness, fast or irregular heartbeat, enlarged pupils, seizures, and loss of consciousness.

NOTES:

Never share prescription medication with others. Do not use this medication for longer than three weeks unless specifically instructed to do so by your doctor. This medication only provides temporary relief and must be used in combination of rest, physical therapy, and other measures.

MISSED DOSE:

In the event that you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If you do not remember before it is close to time to take your next dose, then simply skip it and resume taking as scheduled. It is important never to “double-up” on this medication.

STORAGE:

It is important to store at room temperature away from moisture and sunlight. Do not store in the bathroom. As always keep all medication out of the reach of children. Always dispose of expired medications.
