How to Use:

This medication is used as a cream and applied to the affected skin areas twice daily, and should be used as long as symptoms persist. If your symptoms persist for longer six weeks, contact your doctor. You should not dress the treated area.

Remember to follow the directions on the prescription exactly. Never take more or less of this medication or take it more often than prescribed to avoid serious side effects.

Side Effects:

Side effects while on this medication are uncommon however you may experience: burning or feeling of warmth at the application sight; headache, and with long-term intermittent use, common cold/stuffy nose, influenza, sore throat, fever, viral infection, and cough. Some people may get herpes skin infections (like cold sores, chicken pox, or shingles), warts, or swollen lymph nodes (glands). These are usually mild and go away during treatment, but if they persist or get bothersome contact your doctor. If in the very rare even you experience an allergic reaction to this medication seek emergency medical treatment. While side effects are uncommon if you experience any side effect that has not been mentioned, contact your local pharmacist or healthcare provider.

Precautions:

This medication is for external use only. It is important not to use this medication if you have the congenital skin disorder Netherton’s syndrome, without speaking to your doctor. It is important to tell you doctor if you have: have a skin infection; have a disease of the immune system; or are using any other type of skin product (e.g., cream, ointment, lotion, etc.). Women who are pregnant need to discuss all of the risks and the benefits of this medication before taking it, and only when expressly needed. Women who are nursing should consult their doctor before breast-feeding because it is not know if this medication is excreted into breast milk.

Overdose:

In the event that an overdose is suspected contact your local emergency room or poison control center immediately.

Notes:

Never share any prescription medication with others. Avoid sunlight and sunlamps, tanning beds, and treatments with UVA or UVB light. Wear loose clothing that protects the treated area if you are participating in outdoor activities. Do not use other skin products with using this medication, unless you have permission from your doctor.

Missed Dose:

In the event that you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If you do not remember before it is close to time to take your next dose, then simply skip it and resume taking as scheduled. It is important never to “double-up” on this medication

Storage:

This medication needs to be stored at room temperature and away from direct sunlight and moisture. The best temperature should be around 68 and 77 degrees Fahrenheit and 20 to 25 degrees Celsius.
